New Upgrade Kit Brings Energy Efficiency to Hot Water Shrink Packaging
Facts & Benefits
- 70% to 90% power saving. Typically 30 to 50 kilowatt as measured with a 3 phase datalogger on each site.
- Typically less than 18 months payback on electrical power savings.
- Commercially proven. Fifteen installations are now running on four different brands of shrink tunnel at seven New Zealand meat plants beginning in June 2009.
- Only one powered moving part. A single side channel blower eliminates hot fog and blows water off the packages.
- All construction materials (stainless steel, plastic conveyor belting and PVC air curtains) are already approved and widely used in the meat industry.
- Kit installation over a single weekend from Friday to Monday to enable power measurement and commissioning during production.
Installation Process
- The customer provides photographs by email of both the shrink tunnel and the package water removal device. The photos need to show the sides and ends of the tunnel, the air knives or jets plus any drip tray under the package drier.
- Details of the existing side channel blower (if there is one) are also emailed to CEI. CEI are able to quote for the supply of FPZ side channel blowers and air knives from New Zealand but are happy to work with other suppliers equipment.
- CEI report back outlining the scope of work required and a decision is taken as to whether or not CEI will visit the plant for a more detailed assessment during production before the installation. Such visits are more common than not. Among other benefits they enable measurement of the existing power consumption for a more accurate assessment of payback time.
- CEI quote and provide pipe work specifications. CEI pricing does not include the supply and/or installation of a side channel blowers, pipework or other work such as conveyor modifications. Installation timing is negotiated.
- The customer arranges with third part contractors for pipework and side channel blower installation.
- When any necessary third party work is complete CEI install and commssion the upgrade kit.
